so i went to portugal
i'm writing this just to keep track of my thoughts after the day, and i have nowhere else i can write on my phone besides google docs and the notes app
technically its 6 AM on a thursday, but i'll be writing about wedsneday. i was just so tired that i could barely do anything
i had spent 10 hours on the plane, it was enough to watch 2 movies and sleep a little, but i only got 1 hour or sleep more or less
so when we got down from the plane in Lisbon, it felt like it was still tuesday for me
anyway, i ate lunch at some restaurant, and i felt bad for the servers because they didn't seem to speak portuguese very well. there are a lot of immigrants in here, especially indian immigrants. and the language i speak, think of it as being the brazilian equivalent of a thick new jersey accent.
so i tried to mask my accent a little bit for the sake of everyone else, but on a table near me there was a group of brazilian tourists who did not do that, and the servers had to call the manager (or owner? idk) who was portuguese so he'd be able to understand what they wanted to order
there was also a table with two american tourists, who ironically did not seem to have trouble communicating even though they did not speak portuguese at all.
anyway, after that i went to see Castelo de São Jorge (castle of saint george) which has a lot of history. it was originally built by arabs in the 11th century, and just stayed there for the most part of lisbon's history. back then Lisbon was called Al-Uxbuna. you could say that the castle is older than the city of Lisbon itself, or at least the name.
but before even the arabs settled there, it was home to romans and it was called Olissipo; and then the visigoths settled and called it Aschbouna. so the city is very ancient even though it went by many names across history.

How loud are they? What do they speak like?
Isaac: He's pretty quiet until he strikes up a conversation with someone, or unless he's really engrossed in research and muttering to himself. He speaks at a normal volume? Loud enough to be heard but not enough to draw attention from the rest of the room. He has a neutral Central States accent--though he's heard Chicago, his birth city, used to have its own particular one. His family had varying degrees of accents and speech patterns from the Spanish spoken in their home countries: his Costa Rican grandmother didn't really roll her R's, while his dad and aunt, Chilangos (people from Mexico City) used slang she would sometimes to get annoyed with.
Renato: He's rather soft-spoken for a secret vampire enforcer, actually. His parents, especially his father, insisted on him sounding formal and intelligent, marks of authority and culture--and to never use Brazilian Portuguese. So, of course, he picked some of it up to scandalize them, along with bits of other languages spoken among the "common" folk on the ship. (He's pretty sure this wasn't purely out of discrimination. He never learned the whole story, but he suspects a relative ran off to Brazil before he was born.)
Dorian: Oh, look, the museum has a mosasaur fossil! What's a mosasaur? Only an ocean dinosaur! Well, okay, they're technically not dinosaurs--they're related more to snakes and lizards. See those extra teeth in the upper jaw? Some snakes and lizards today have those too, to really chomp down on prey. And--sorry, sorry! They just really get going when they're excited, you know? Their accent comes through just a little bit more too--everyone speaks Kreyòl with sprinkles of English at home.
Kinslayer: They choose the way they speak like they would any weapon: whatever's best suited to the situation. Their brash laughter and exaggerated drawl is to divert attention and lure arrogant foes into underestimating their intelligence. They mimic dialects and slang as naturally as an octopus blends in with a reef. They remember bits and pieces of languages no one's left to understand. Funnily enough, the voice most people think of as their "real" one is mostly a product of imagination--and Kinslayer's powers of persuasion. It's different depending on the listener, but many hear a come-hither contralto before doing something they might not have otherwise.
Vess: Hmph. She can glean and channel well enough to speak to whoever, but it's frustrating and distracting to do so for long stretches. Humans find her voice raspy and "nagging", but her own kind have an appreciation for her direct manner. At least to her face--she's spared the annoyance of being able to read their every trivial thought.
Ankaris: He's taken pains to learn two of the major human trade languages on his own. But it's much easier to channel whatever timbre, pitch, and characteristics he needs, of course. He dislikes having to raise his voice. It feels like such a loss of control over the situation.
Fior: She's used to lecturing those who wish to learn from her, or rooms full of admiring/envious guests, so her voice tends to command attention, she's told. She's been quite interested in recording not just the spoken components of human languages, but the variations and similarities in pools of images, emotions, and experiences across groups of them. It's been...illuminating.

OUTFEST 2020 FILM REVIEWS:  The Rest Of The Fest
As the curtain closes on another Outfest, this one presented under extremely unusual circumstances, I sit in awe of the filmmakers and of the staff who put together not only a great group of films, but managed to creatively bring them to its audience online and at drive-in screenings.  Typically, you find yourself having to choose one film over several others, but with this new format, you have a great chance of seeing everything you want.  In past years, I found myself lucky if I saw 15 films.  This year I saw 23 features and 4 shorts programs out of the 160 on the schedule.
As it’s impossible to get full reviews submitted for everything while the festival is still chugging along, I wanted to write capsules of the remaining films not covered at TheQueerReview.com .  Please visit the website for all the other reviews I wrote as well as those by my colleagues.
Tumblr media
THE OBITUARY OF TUNDE JOHNSON ★★★★★
Melding a Groundhog Day-style concept with police violence against black people, this stunning film could not be more prescient and emotionally overpowering.  A black gay teenager relives his moment of murder over and over again, with slight shifts in the narrative taking us to someplace unexpected and earned.  Director Ali LeRoi directs his first feature as if he’s been doing it all of his life and has interpreted Stanley Kalu’s ingenious script with a great cinematic approach.  Gorgeously framed, beautifully acted, written, and directed, this is one of the most powerful films of 2020.
Tumblr media
TWO EYES ★★★★★
I can’t form sentences here so I’m gonna vomit out words:  Instant classic. Glorious. Set over three centuries seamlessly melding a triptych of stories about gender identity.  I’m a blubbering mess.  Fantastic and very funny last line.  Travis Fine is a very gifted filmmaker who screams love child of Terrence Malick and Kelly Reichardt.  Heartbreaking. Inspiring. Unforgettable.  Montana is so beautiful.  Barstow is not.  A perfect film for anyone who wants to find their place in the world. I wouldn’t complain if TUNDE and TWO EYES both received Best Picture Oscar nominations.
Tumblr media
DRAMARAMA  ★★★★
Theater nerds rule in this incredibly endearing, early 90s set film about a group of high schoolers discovering themselves in one night at a ridiculous Murder Mystery-themed party.  Hilarious script, vivid and wonderful performances, and the opposite of a “Coming Out” movie in the best possible way.  Jonathan Wysocki has given us The Breakfast Club for air-kissing, mid-Atlantic accented freaks and geeks.
Tumblr media
CICADA ★★★★
What happens when a traumatized, bisexual man who has more sex partners than any standard montage can contain slows things down to concentrate on one kind but also traumatized young man?  This elliptically told film has a fun, flirty side but carries its heaviness with great ease.  A terrific feature debut for director/writer/editor/lead actor Matthew Fifer.
Tumblr media
THE STRONG ONES (LOS FUERTES) ★★★★
From Chile comes this sexy, moving story of two men at cross purposes who form a beautiful bond.  Set against some stunning scenery and mining the chemistry between its two leads for everything it has, I am half-jokingly calling it Brokeback Andes.  It’s so much more than that trite, hackneyed comparison.
Tumblr media
MONSOON ★★★1/2
Director Hong Khaou’s followup to Lilting sets its sights on modern day Vietnam as Henry Golding’s character visits to find a suitable place to distribute his mother’s ashes.  It’s a terrific mediation on a gay man finding a sense of belonging in a place he’s never been and Golding proves himself to be a subtle, compelling actor.  Perhaps a little too quiet and reflective, the film makes up for what it lacks in narrative drive with its awe-inspiring cinematography and immersive qualities.
Tumblr media
P.S. BURN THIS LETTER PLEASE ★★★★1/2
What an unexpected surprise.  Michael Seligman and Jennifer  Tiexiera’s documentary about a treasure trove of letters dating back to the 1950s brings us into the world of drag queens from almost 70 years ago.  With many of its subjects not only alive but in fine form telling their stories and the dishiest voiceover readings ever to grace a film, I was not only thoroughly entertained, but I didn’t expect to weep like Laura Dern at the end.  Oh, this is so so so so good.
Tumblr media
MINYAN ★★★★
Eric Steel’s feature debut has its own unique tone and a star making performance by Samuel H. Levine, a spitting image of a young Al Pacino/Sylvester Stallone hybrid.  With its 1980s Jewish Brighton Beach backdrop, this powerful yet subtle film about a young man coming to terms with his sexuality as well as his place within his religion, it’s a stunning debut.  Ron Rifkin is stellar as Levine’s charming grandfather and Alex Hurt (William Hurt’s son) has his father’s intensity.  Fantastic, lived-in production design which feels like its decade without resorting to the usual candy colored tropes and a evocative score makes this a memorable experience.  Reminiscent at times of On The Waterfront, this film puts a fresh new spin on a coming of age tale and finds so many moving moments from first sex to an elderly gay couple hiding in plain sight.  A must-see.
Tumblr media
SHIVA BABY ★★★★
Writer/Director Emma Seligman must have studied Rosemary’s Baby quite a bit with this angsty story set mostly at a memorial service.  Rachel Sennott is fantastic as a young lesbian who moves from one cringe-worthy moment to the next in an attempt to avoid as much conflict as possible.  The great supporting cast includes Polly Draper, Fred Melamed, Dianna Agron, Molly Gordon, and Jackie Hoffman, all note perfect.  Less a comedy and more of an emotional horror story, Seligman knows how to make the best of a cramped space and throw up an endless variety of obstacles.  You just want Sennott’s Danielle to get her goddamned bagel with lox and cream cheese, but the fates have something else, something better, in store.
Tumblr media
COWBOYS ★★★★
Steve Zahn gives a career best performance in this moving story of a father with mental health issues and his trans son escaping into the Montana wilderness.  Sasha Knight makes an impressive debut as Zahn’s son and Jillian Bell expertly walks that fine line between villain and empathetic character.  Its comparisons to Butch Cassidy And The Sundance Kid are not coincidental.  Not perfect by any stretch, it may feel fairly conventional, but it’s tackling a vibrant subject matter.  Extra points for giving Ann Dowd a role where we don’t hiss at her.
Tumblr media
BREAKING FAST ★★★
Solid romcom with a Muslim backdrop, this very tight, deceptively simple script provides just the right amount of sparks between its charming leads, Haaz Sleiman and Michael Cassidy.  While structurally not breaking new ground, the entry point into a world we don’t see enough of on screen coupled with food porn for days makes this a fun, funny, goes down easy delight.
Tumblr media
ASK ANY BUDDY ★★★1/2
Q: Daddy!  Daddy!  What were the 70s like down at the Piers in NYC?   A: Oh shut up and watch this movie.
An experimental collage of vintage gay porn and archival footage from the disco, pre-AIDS heyday gives this film a mesmerizing, museum installation quality.  While technically without a story, you feel like you’ve gone on a journey nonetheless.  Would pair well with William Friedkin’s Cruising.
Tumblr media
DRY WIND ★★★1/2
Slow cinema meets voyeuristic gay porn in this one of a kind Brazilian exploration an arid small town, a workers’ union crisis, and a man obsessed with the Tom Of Finland drawing come to life who motors into his life.  Overlong and a little too obtuse as it goes along, it’s worth watching this Alice In Wonderland takes a quaalude, gets a very hairy back, and has a lot of sex in the dirt.
Tumblr media
NO HARD FEELINGS ★★★★
This year’s Teddy Award Winner at the Berlin Film Festival, Faraz Shariat’s film uses its backdrop of a refugee camp in Germany to tell the story of Iranians and Irani-Germans searching for a better life.  Its three leads bring a spark and youthful energy to a story with devastating undercurrents.  A wrenching glimpse into the emotional effects an oppressive culture has on its people, yet told with a driving pulse.
Tumblr media
LILY TOMLIN: THE FILM BEHIND THE SHOW ★★★
A look behind the scenes as Lily Tomlin and wife Jane Wagner workshop their legendary 1980s Broadway show, The Search For Signs Of Intelligent Life In The Universe.  It’s great to see these two at the top of their game and get a glimpse of their creative process, but this documentary is almost devoid of incident and feels more like a sweet gift to the fans than a fully realized film.
Tumblr media
SHORTS: WHAT A BOY NEEDS ★★★1/2
A mixed bag here of people searching for excitement, I found a couple of gems here nonetheless.  Not to take away from the shorts I don’t mention, I want to single out two exceptional films. Ruben Navarro’s Of Hearts And Castles looks great, has a beautiful vibe, and shows us a lovely connection forming right before our eyes.  Kiko’s Saints proves highly original as we follow a female Japanese artist on assignment in France become obsessed with a gay couple who have a lot of sex on the beach.  Combining animation with fairly explicit sex, I loved seeing the male gaze from a female perspective.
Tumblr media
THE CAPOTE TAPES ★★1/2
I love Truman Capote. I grew up at a time when smart authors found themselves on talk shows and were treated like superstars.  I’ve read his books and always have been in awe of his ability to be himself.  Featuring never-before-heard tapes of Capote’s friends being interviewed by George Plimpton, unfortunately, I don’t think this repetitive documentary gave me anything all that new.  It’s still touching at times and for the uninitiated, this is a great overview of his life, but I was watching the clock.
Tumblr media
OUT LOUD ★★★1/2
A moving look at the Trans Chorus of Los Angeles as they prepare for their first public performance.  With its ticking clock storyline, director Gail Willumsen expertly interweaves storylines of its founder and members.  As such, you really learn what’s a stake and what it means to them.  I was lucky enough to see the chorus perform David Bowie’s Ziggy Stardust a few years ago and basked in the power of its mere existence…and was also ridiculously entertained.
Tumblr media
TWILIGHT’S KISS (SUK SUK)  ★★★1/2
This quiet charmer form Hong Kong shows us something we almost never get to see on film - two elderly gay men meeting and falling in love.  The fact that both have been married to women doesn’t stop them from exploring their feelings.  A little to gentle by half, I still was in awe of this rarity.

hiiii i wanna offer my contribution :3 (i hope this helps!!!)
Languages I speak: Portuguese (native), English (fluent), super extra basic Spanish, starting to learn Hebrew
Alphabets/Writing systems: Latin, Hebrew (I can already ready it relatively fluently, but I don't understand much, only basics too)
Dialects and/or Accents: Brazilian Portuguese and also southeastern accent :3
Hebrew: I sort of have an ashkenazi accent (very sort of) cuz i technically learned israeli accent but since most people I know are ashkenazi, I kind of am absorving the accent (its specifically Lithuanian accent); I don't know Yiddish but maybe some expressions??
Who can ask: copying from op bc Yeah. Anyone not included in my dni, through asks or DMs
Things I'll do: i can try to teach overall brazilian culture (maybe vaguely chabad jewish culture, but im still in the process of conversion so idk), translate from english to portuguese n vice versa, and i can also transliterate hebrew ^.^
Calling all creatives!
Have you ever had a blorbo who speaks a different language than you? Have you ever written, drawn, or otherwise made something requiring another language, and gone "man, I wish I had a more reliable source of research than google translate"? Because I have.
That's why I want this post to be a hub for people to find others they can go to for language queries. This includes, but is not limited to, languages, translations, writing systems and alphabets, regional accents, dialects, and slang, as well as culturally and otherwise significant linguistic characteristics. And if you want to offer advice on things outside language specific themes, like culture or food, that can be handy too. So even if you "only" speak english, I'm sure your experiences can be of help to someone out there (being a native speaker of English is already something a lot of people are looking for)
So if you wanna help people out with this, reblog this post and list the following things: languages, writing systems, and/or cultures you're familiar with and can help out with, as well as who can ask you for advice (anyone, followers, mutuals, or friends only? Any DNIs?)
I'll start:
Languages I speak: German (native), English (fluent), French (still very much learning, but can maybe give advice to some extent in a pinch) Alphabets/Writing systems: Latin Dialects and/or Accents: Swiss German (native, dialect), Bavarian (familiar, dialect) Who can ask: Anyone not included in my dni, through asks or DMs Things I'll do: Give advice on language and culture, translate small bits of text, or anything else you need really
You can use the above as a template or modify it however you like if you have more to add or less to say.
Hopefully this way, we can all have a post to come back to the next time we need advice for a project.

“What do you feel like watching?”
Cisco scrolled through the never ending list with the remote on Netflix. Caitlin propped her head up on her mountain of fluffy pillows, eager to start their lazy date.
“Anything you feel like,” she said.
Cisco looked at her and scoffed. A+ effort for trying to be a chill girlfriend but that wasn’t convincing. “Yeah, right. I bet if I picked one right now you’d veto it off.”
“I would not.”
Cisco selected the view title for Star Trek with a raised eyebrow. Caitlin scrunched her nose.
“Ha! See.”
Caitlin snuggled in closer, looping her arm around his. She dropped her head against his shoulder. “Fine,” she said with a sigh and a smile. “Maybe you’re right.”
He picked a witty rom-com. The intro sequence started to play and he dimmed the lights with his phone app, then silenced the device and chucked it into the sea of blankets. It’s already been a stressful day for Team Flash and they lost the steam to dress up for their planned date.
But Cisco really wanted to do something together, even if it wasn’t for an evening out in Central City, so he suggested they cozy up inside and well rested instead.
With Caitlin in one of his button-down shirts she’d made him vibe home to get and her sweats, Cisco knew this was one of his most brilliant ideas yet.
They’d already eaten their orders of Brazilian food at the table (Caitlin drew limits to what she’d allow into her bedroom). Watching movies together had always been one of their things, on the couch with respectable distance and deniability between them. So really, Cisco was half hoping he’d fall asleep here and wake up with her for the first time at her apartment.
“Oh, I’ll like this one,” she said as the main character was introduced to his love interest for the first time.
Cisco looked down at her. “Yeah? We just started watching, how do you know?”
Her eyes never left the screen as she replied, “He’s very attractive, look at that hair.”
Cisco squawked out an indignant noise. Caitlin looked up and patted his cheek teasingly after a chaste kiss. “He’s a fictional character, Cisco. Don’t give me that face.”
He hated to admit it but she had a point. The main guy was crazy hot. Which absolutely tickled his ego thirty minutes later when she’d all but forgotten about the film in favour of talking instead.
The movie played silently, now on subtitles. Caitlin hugged one of her pillows to her chest.
“I never asked this before. What would you say is your first language?”
Cisco thought about it. “Spanish, I think, technically. Mom and dad spoke it at home so we picked up the words as babies, but we’ve always been pretty bilingual.”
She traced the veins on the back of his hand as she listened. If Cisco didn’t know any better he’d think she’s just asking him as many questions she could come up with to hear the sound of his voice.
“Your doppelgängers all have thicker accents than you do,” she said. “Have you noticed?”
Cisco chuckled as she bit her bottom lip, waiting for his reply. “Is this your roundabout way of asking me to flirt in Spanish with you?”
An adorable blush crept up her cheeks. “Maybe?”
“Hmmm.” Cisco got drunk off this coy version of Caitlin. He kissed her when she tilted her chin up for one, running a hand through her soft hair. “Okay. What do you want me to say?”
Caitlin looked back to the television set to find the characters in a passionate kiss of their own. “How would I tell you I’m going to kiss you?” She blushed. “If I just felt like it.”
Cisco hauled her over, limbs and blankets tangled together as he sat her on his lap for a proper tutorial. He chased her lips until she went all pliant and giggly, with a soft whimper when he let go. “Besos para ti,” he said against her lips, then cupped her cheeks to go at it again. “...Or you could ask for a kiss. Say ‘Bésame’.”
“Bésame?”
Cisco almost damn well lost it. She said it too sweetly. That should be illegal.
“Yeah, okay, I’m just gonna smother you with kisses every time you say that.”
Caitlin’s eyes lit up. “I wouldn’t object.”
“You wouldn’t, huh?” He kissed her hand. “Te quero,” slipped out. His mouth started running once he opened the mental linguistic switchboard, a floodgate of endearments tumbling out as Caitlin laid her head back unaware, soaking it in. “Más de lo que sabes. Querida...Eres quien me da cobijo.”
Caitlin sighed. “You’re talking about how much you like me.”
“Yeah.” He smiled. “How’d you know?”
“Well…” she played with the end of her blanket. “You’re using te, which sounds like tu, the pronoun for second person singular in French. I know what querida is.”
Cisco paused. “...You do?”
“My dear,” she whispered. Her eyes floated up to her pristine ceiling. My love, she didn’t say, but she must’ve been thinking about it.
“You wanted me to flirt with you,” he reminded her, nervous it was too much too soon. They’ve only been dating a couple of weeks. Somehow a month after catching her by the elbow to kiss her after months (years) of pining he still managed to avoid dropping any serious declarations. Cisco’s heart had made up its mind that he’d been half in love with her since, oh, just about forever, but knowing Caitlin’s hesitance to relationships had him holding his tongue.
Caitlin nodded, closing her eyes. “I did. I do.” She reached for him in bed, turning on her side. Cisco mirrored the position, meeting her searching eyes. They were soft and beautiful. “Thank you.”
“You really don’t know what I just said?”
She let out a breath, sheepish. “I got distracted by how you said it. Tell me?”
“Uhhh…” Cisco kissed her cheeks to hide his embarrassment. “Another time.”
She didn’t push him, but somehow the knowing look in her eyes told him she could gather enough to get a hint. They continued on like that for another few minutes until Caitlin sagged further against him.
“Tired?” She nodded. She must be. They were in their labs since early morning, working. The credits were rolling now for a film they hardly paid attention to.
“Glad we stayed in?”
“Yes.” Caitlin smiled sleepily. “This was perfect.”
Cisco himself was half asleep. He fished for his phone to charge as Caitlin maneuvered out of her bra under the borrowed shirt. Unceremoniously, she let it drop to the carpet floor, a clear indication her fatigue was more prominent than she let on. They’d probably nap for a few hours then wake closer to midnight to brush their teeth and fix their hair, but for now, all Cisco could do is flop back against the sheets like sleep was all he’s made for.
Under the covers, she cuddled close, pressing her soft body against his. She placed her hand on his chest.
“Cisco…”
“...Yes?”
She didn’t answer straight away. Instead, she turned around once more, touching his jawline with the cool pad of her thumb. “Bésame?”

The Benefits of Using Exotic Woods For Outdoor Projects
If you're planning on a new outdoor project, you'll want to consider the benefits of using exotic woods. These kinds of materials are durable, resistant to the elements, and will look fantastic no matter what the weather outside. Whether you're putting up a swing set, or creating an outdoor patio, Go to Website here fot plenty of options to choose from. So, take a look at the types of wood you've been considering, and see if they're right for your next project.
Cumaru
Cumaru is an exotic hardwood that has a low cost, durable, and long life. It is often used in furniture, flooring, and other outdoor projects.
The wood's durability and resistance to decay and pests makes it a great choice for outdoor projects. However, it has to be harvested from sustainably managed forests to avoid environmental damage.
This exotic hardwood is available in a wide variety of blank sizes. If you are looking for blanks, check out a company that specializes in exotic woods, such as Cumaru Decking Miami.
Cumaru is a dense wood that doesn't bend as easily as softwoods. It also comes with a reddish to dark brown color. The grain is interlocked. It is also very hard and can be surface-planed to a smooth finish.
Cumaru hardwood is resistant to moisture, white-rot fungi, and termite attack. It also has a high friction coefficient. It doesn't become hot in the sun, making it ideal for exterior use.
Tumblr media
Zebrawood
Zebrawood is an exotic wood used in a variety of projects. This beautiful hardwood is very durable, and can be used for a number of applications, including flooring, furniture, carving, and paneling.
Zebrawood is known for its distinctive zebra-like stripes. The stripes vary from dark brown to black. This type of wood is a good choice for those looking to add a unique accent to their home.
Zebrawood can be found in several areas of Africa. It is a member of the Fabaceae family. It is a hard wood with a medium to coarse texture. The grain is usually interlocked. It is also very flexible. It is considered a relatively inexpensive exotic wood, though it is expensive compared to other exotics.
This type of wood has a natural finish that is very attractive. It can be polished to a high shine. However, it should be kept in mind that it is not recommended for use in paint. It can cause eye irritation, and can also make people with asthma sick. It is also prone to attacks from the common furniture beetle.
Brazilian hardwoods
If you want to make an outdoor living space more attractive, using exotic wood is a great way to do so. These hard woods are highly durable and come in a variety of colors and shades. They also require less maintenance than other options.
Whether you are building a deck, fence or boardwalk, you will benefit from choosing exotic hardwoods. They have some impressive technical properties, including resistance to moisture, insects, fire, and rot. They are also durable and will last longer than composite materials. However, these exotic species will cost more than domestic varieties.
These woods are hard and have natural oils that repel insects. They are also easy to clean, so you won't have to worry about stains and mildew. They also have unique grain patterns, which add to their appeal.
Tigerwood is one of the most interesting and durable exotic woods you can buy. It is dark brown and red in color, and its wood grain is striped. It is also resistant to rot, so it can be used for outdoor decks. It is also easily cleaned with a wood cleaner.
Western red cedar
Exotic woods are often used in outdoor construction projects for their unique look and durability. It's important to know which species you are planning to use to ensure the best results. You also want to make sure you choose a wood that is sustainable.
One of the most popular woods for outdoor projects is Western red cedar. This beautiful wood is native to southwestern Canada and the western United States. It's a good choice for siding, decking, and more. Its warm hues and uniform grain patterns give it a distinctive look.
Another popular option is tigerwood. Tigerwood is a durable and water-resistant hardwood. It's also eye-catching and offers a natural resistance to rot. For an eye-catching touch, you can stain it. The wood can be cleaned with a hardwood cleaner.
Ipe is another popular choice. This exotic wood is a dense, strong hardwood that has an even, fine grain. It can last up to 100 years if it's cared for properly.

NO BUT LITREALY lumity is legitmently such an utter mess the more i think abt it that it lowky reminds me of catradora in a way(but not as bad) i would far rather they have willow and luz be end game, im not even a willow fan but its less insulting then luz instantly dating a girl who bullied her friend for years
Yeah i remember the song doing that n its still so weird to me how some ppl keep defending it-i highly doubt ppl would try to defend it if g1 did something like that
Oh yeah she was definitely implied to be Aboriginal, Aboriginal or Māori due to the tattoos on her dad, granted she would be biracial Indigenous & white due to her mom(her mom is a water nymph so greek) its weird to me how ppl keep insisting she was just a white girl in g1 cus of dumb reasons like her being blonde, having green eyes & “light skin”(shes just blue😭) when its obv she’s not , some ppl argue shes still implied Indigenous in g3 which while yes true Indigenous latines & Aboriginal/Māori folk arent the same and acting as if any representation of an Indigenous person is representive of all Indigenous cultures is weird af 😐 (also yeah your spot on about Brazilians-as a Brazilian myself its so frustrating how there is little to no representation for us likely due to us not speaking spanish, i was actually excited at first for lagoona being latina now cus the creature from the black lagoon is specifically located in the amazon which is in Brazil but turns out she wasnt)
My friend did note that both the mummy & the frankenstein monster in the classic universal films were played by the same actor which i think is a cute detail about clankie but i just overall cant say im a fan of it or at least how its tackled (the fans make the pairing even less enjoyable their so damn insufferable)
Yeah i agree about nefera shes such a nothing character now, it feels like they wanted to do helga & olga but didnt get why that one worked so well, the whole point of clawdeens siblings vs cleos sister was to show the differences between a healthy relationship between siblings vs a toxic one i mean hell clawdeen even had a big sister like cleo
Honestly g3 cleos voice is so damn funny to me cus its litrealy just amanitas voice😂
G3 toralei is so weird cus they obv wanted her to be punk w her first doll but were too scared to actually go there so instead they went more 80s glam and rave which just dont rlly work for toralei, i mean her band is litrealy called hissfits a pun on missfits a punk band yet like you said she just sings pop-rock songs, g1 toralei was definitely punk the only character & doll in g3 id say are actually punk is venus & welcome comittee frankie which is weird cus g3 frankie is supposed to be “DIY punk” yet they only ever dress in prepy fashion , g1s punk characters were based on a more toned down verison of punk yeah but they were still punk regardless
Tbh im canadian too n i dont rlly mind ghoulia being canadian not being mentioned much-mainly cus idk what they couls do to mention it 🤷🏽‍♂️ i also dont think a voice actor needs to perfectly match the characters appearance unless the character is disabled or has an accent cus we wont see them but also cus i care way more abt how they eruased her being autistic coded & had her speak, yes she “technically” spoke in g1 but not only are not all languages verbal ones(such as ASL) but also to the audience she was mute , alot of nonverbal autistic ppl noted that they communicate in a similar way she does besides she displayed other autistic traits like hating change , needing a schudule, having a special interest , struggling to express herself etc, only to now have all of that gone in g3 not to mention even her implied physical disability is removed in g3, she doesnt have a hunch n moves just like everyone else does most we get is “oh she needs a skateboard to move around better” which is such a dumb way to represent a mobility aid - i do fully understand foxford & bunny tho , i do think they should have done a better job at estiblishing them ceing icelandic n welsh at least give them an accent, but for bunny her having an actor w down syndrome is extremely important, down syndrome does effect someones speech pattern its important to make sure her voice actor has the same speech pattern as a neurotypical/able bodied person cant do that, granted i also am just in general burnt out on wereanimals in MH 😅 thats all we get now n its so damn lazy n boring, i would far rather if they picked an entirely different welsh folklore monster for bunny n made foxford something like idk a kitsune(just as an example) just anything but a wereanimal
Monster high G3 rant
Watching the TV series and I’m kind of disappointed.
This will be my second watch of season 1, I’m rewatching after the current season 2 episodes.
the show feels very flat in my opinion. They’ve given the characters a lot of cool traits, but they’re used for like one episode and then never brought up, or they only use one specific trait 24/7. Like Frankie in this generation, they have the ability to electrocute, extend their body parts, and they get visions from the people they’re made out of. Specifically they get visions from this one recurring doctor/ scientist. The idea is cool, but the vision literally is there to give exposition about something conveniently. Like when they are trying to solve the puzzle of clawdeens mom, Frankie’s vision just conveniently tells them what to do and how to do it.
In that same episode, we see manny taur. A Minotaur character. And right away we are just told that he’s good at puzzle solving, and so is draculaura! They’re rivals! But this is the first time I’ve ever seen or heard about draculaura being into puzzles, let alone her one sided rivalry with manny. And as the episode ends, she’s like “well you can be the rightful puzzle master” but it feels so flat. There has been no build up to this moment.
Another example is lagoona. In her designated episode, she is rooting for torelai to win the fear-leading captain over draculaura (another thing that has no build up as to why it’s important to her) lagoona explains that torelai is holding a secret over her head, and if it gets out she will lose her status as the fiercest monster in school. But this is the first time we have heard this!! In previous episodes there’s no mention of her being scary or fierce. Or even her super fast swimming skills. It’s just brought up and glosses over with a “be who you are, it’s okay to like what you want! We all have secrets 🥹” but there’s no real character development.
My last example will be the way draculaura is presented in this series. From what she tells us, she has high standards to live up to as a vampire. She needs to look good for her day so she studies endlessly and is striving for perfection. But she also has a love for witchcraft, which is banned in monster high due to its connections to humans. This can be a cute premise, but they NEVER show draculaura compared to any other vampire to show how she’s supposed to act. They never give us episodes where she blows off her friend’s shenanigans because it makes her look bad, and they never really show her dad being so overbearing. They don’t show us WHY humans are hated. And even though witchcraft is banned, whenever anyone finds out about it they’re just cool with it? No push back or anything. The only character to challenge draculaura was torelai.
This all may be very nitpicky, but MH is a character driven franchise. Character relationships with each other and their surroundings are very important to me. I want to feel the so called pressure these characters are being put under. It doesn’t have to be ultra serious 24/7, but issues get resolved within one episode and then rehashed a few episodes later with no further development. Especially with characters like Cleo and lagoona. They have been benched as side characters in this show, and side characters get much worse treatment.
‘The general episode progression is like this - introduce an issue, introduce a high stakes situation that involves the school, have all or one of the main 3 engage in a sequence of fights against this issue(or rapid solving of said issue through convince) - issue is resolved and lesson is told to viewers-characters reset for the next episode.
I know this is a children’s show, but that doesn’t mean it needs to have bad writing, not all kids are high off cocomelon. Kids deserve good writing in their media!
My next rant will be about clawdeen and her story this generation

Languages head canon
The Syndicate requires its operatives to learn Portuguese for their South American missions. Bai learns it textbook perfect; but her grammar is too flawfless, her accent too unnaturally bland. Amber teases her about being a walking dictionary. Amber picks up the technical aspects quickly enough; she doesn't bother to lose her English accent. She will never pass for Brazilian, so she plays up the part of the lost gringa tourist whenever she can. Hei learns it the fastest - not just the accents and vernacular of the major cities, but that of the regional and outlying areas as well, and can usually pass for Brazilian-born Japanese. But he can't read it for shit, and has to rely on his sister to interpret even basic road signs. The Syndicate despairs at getting him beyond a first-grade level in reading anything that isn't Chinese (which he's not all that great at either).
